1936 Bronson Standard: Holy Lollapalooza! What an incredible instrument! First the history, or what is known of it: Bronson was an offshoot of the Oahu Publishing Company who had guitars made for them, probably by Regal of Chicago, under both the Oahu and Bronson names. They offered the standard series, with Spanish necks, and the Hawaiian Series with square necks for lap style playing. They also offered them in two sizes, the deep bodied small jumbo, such as this one, and a slightly smaller Grand Concert+ version. The wood selection was either Mahogany, Maple or Brazilian Rosewood. They did not designate a choice, so the player was at the mercy of the company as to which version he would receive. Almost all were sold mail order, so the player would ask for either standard or Hawaiian style and wait to see what Oahu decided to send. This example is Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood with a few long ago repairs (mostly on the sides). The sound is both wonderful and unique. A great ragtime fingerpicker with plenty of separation and strong projection. Some may even want to take a nut raiser and play it lap style. Or perhaps you'd just like to display it in your home and just admire this beautiful example from the Golden Age of guitar making. With hard case. $6500 Stock#UGB31371 photo
