More Instruments

1966 Joao Pedro Gracio Jr.  Guitarra Portuguesa: The Gracio family is perhaps the most respected maker of this style instrument in the world. Think of them as the "Martin" of Portuguese makers. The family has been making instruments since Joao Pedro Gracio Sr, began in the early years of the 20th century. Joao Pedro Jr. Was born in 1903 and made guitars until his passing in 1967. This is one of the last instruments made with hs label. The top is Spruce and the back & sides are figured Walnut. The guitar has a crisp tone with plenty of rich overtones to place it among the more exceptional examples of the Guitarra Portuguesa. With hard case. $1500 Stock#UGC34535

ca.1930s Oahu Lap Guitar: When Hawaiian craze hit the mainland in the early 20th century, folks couldn't wait to take up the ukulele or lap guitar. Many companies rushed to fill the need for inexpensive, playable instruments. Regal was a large manufacturer of stringed instruments based in Chicago. They immediately began to build these instruments under not only the Oahu name, but also with other brand names as well. This instrument has survived the almost 80 years since it was first made and sounds remarkably good for a guitar that sold in 1930s prices for around $7. Original purchasers received the guitar, a woven cloth strap, steel tone bar, fingerpicks and instruction manual all included at the $7 price. Of course, the prices have risen since then. With chipboard case. $500 Stock#ULC31786 PHOTO

Lap and Pedal Steel

JUST IN!! 1948/'49 Gibson BR-9 Lapsteel Ivory: This one came to us from the nephew of its original owner, Herb....we know this because his name is right there on the fretboard in fancy decals!  Offered as a student model at a time when it was common to have the choice either lapsteel or accordion as your instrument of "choice", this Gibson BR-9 an ivory finished wood body with cool colored lucite fretboard and bridge cover, early P-90 single coil pickup with non-adjustable pole pieces, volume and tone controls.  Simple and to the point, the Gibson BR-9 continues to be a players choice and a model that's still within a player's budget.  Buffalo Bros price: $450 Stock #ULB34443. photo

ca. 1950s Supro Lap Steel / Amp Set White/Gold Crackle Finish: This is just about the coolest little lap steel set that we've seen in years! Although the set bears no name plates, it's pretty safe to say that this was made in the same factory as the Supro models. The lap steel is a graceful "Spanish" shape with single pickup with volume and tone controls placed on either side of the pickup. The matching amp continues the less-is-more approach with single volume control, 1x6" field coil speaker. Ultra hip and seldom seen! Original faux alligator chipboard case for lap steel included. $850 for the set! Stock #UAB28918 and ULB28917. PHOTO

ca. 1940s Tutmarc Bud-Electro Serenader Lap Steel Dark Cherry: Bud Tutmarc is a legend in the steel guitar community, an accomplished player who has made countless recordings starting in the late-'30s. His father, Paul H. Tutmarc, has been credited with making the first electric bass known as the Serenader. With the influence of his father, Bud Tutmarc began fiddling with electronics at a very young age, winding pickups when he was only 11 or 12 years old! Once established on the music scene he began producing his own instruments like this 6-string lap steel. The Serenader lap steel is a short scale Hawaiian guitar with single, angle pickup at the bridge position for a clear, bright tone designed to cut through in the mix. A very nice sounding lap steel designed by one of the foremost players. With original case. Buffalo Bros price: $600 Stock #ULC31112. photo
