IN TRANSIT!! 1934 Martin 0-17: How sweet it is! This small bodied ragtime special from Martin is now half way through its 75th year. It has experienced a life of creating superb tone in the hands of several players and shows evidence of their musical journey, yet has not been abused or mistreated. The guitar is currently the hands of Dr. James Hood, the local Martin service tech who is performing a little chiropractic work before pronouncing it ready for its next happy owner. It has that well focused tone and wonderfully strong fundamental that denotes the pre-war all Mahogany Martin guitars. A great guitar that Leon Redbone would enjoy too! With gig bag. $2750 Stock#UGBIT
1951 Martin 0-18: Once you've experienced the tone of a vintage Martin guitar, it's hard to resist owning one. Yes, there are some current makers who produce wonderful guitars, many in the Martin tradition, too. As John Wooden once said after having been complemented on his coaching of the young Lew Alcindor "You can't coach height". And so with guitars, "You can't build age". The richness of tone from this, one of the smaller guitars in the Martin line-up will surround your ears with the most pleasant of sounds. Each note stands out like a Christmas bell, not only for its sonorous splendor, but also because it brings joy whenever you hear it. You must play it to appreciate it. The guitar shows much of the handling marks that you would show too if you were in your late 50s, but is structurally sound, and will provide endless years of playing satisfaction. With chipboard case. $3000 Stock#UGC30071 photo BUY NOW
1923 Martin 0-42: One look, even a glance, at this vintage treasure will confirm for you all the reasons vintage Martins are so desirable. This beauty, restored by C.F. Martin in 1980, has those special, hand crafted appointments that make this one high on the list of desirable guitars. The hand-select Brazilian Rosewood is deep and rich in color, and has that straight, well defined grain that Martin was so famous for in the first half of the 20th century. The green heart abalone top border is absolutely exquisite, contrasting beautifully with the golden tones of the Spruce top. It feels right, too. The V shaped or keel neck as some call it, fits the hand perfectly. A superb treasure, the likes of which are quickly disappearing from the collectable guitar landscape. With original hard case. $15,000. Stock#UGB25927 PHOTO
IN TRANSIT!! 1947 Martin 00-17: This 52 year old all Mahogany 14 fretter has that vintage tone and certainly all the mojo that comes with a Martin guitar of that age. The instrument is in great playing condition and cosmetically only suffers from 4 short repaired back cracks that have been stabilized years ago. There's no denying that the tone that we heard years ago from Mance Lipscomb and Lightnin' Hopkins coming from their all Mahogany small bodied Martins is also apparent in this sweet offering. As Lightnin' would have said, " this one's got the mojo!" With non-orig. hard case. $2450 Stock#UGBITRC
1949 Martin 00-18: This 60 year old Martin is a living example of the benefits of a vintage guitar. Showing some honest wear, as well as a few nicks and scratches, the calling card of this instrument lies in its tone. An it has plenty of extremely impressive tone as well as projection and clarity. If ever a guitar could sing, this would be the one. If your heart doesn't skip a few beats after playing a few notes, then you need to have a talk with your cardiologist. A lovely example of the art and tradition of C.F. Martin and Company. With hard case. $4000 Stock #UGB29422 PHOTO BUY NOW
1957 Martin 000-18: Yes, this is a 52 year old Martin 000-18, and yes, it has that sound. Beyond that, a host of well meaning players/repairmen have had their way with her. Most noticeable of course, is the homemade refinish job that clothed its body in the early '60s. Thankfully, unlike the majority of home repair jobs, this new clear coat was not applied too thickly, so that the wood continues to vibrate and produce the soothing tones that Martins are famous for. The rest of the guitar is very serviceable, and a professional neck set by Mr. James Hood has made it right. Priced to entice you to own a fine sounding instrument and have a little coin left over to put towards the mortgage, or a new banjo. (OK, so we went a little crazy there for a second). With hard case. $3000 Stock#UGB29860 photo BUY NOW
1946 Martin 000-28: Every once in a while, we receive a guitar that has our jaws dropping to our chests in awe. This is one of those rare, and getting harder to find examples. A 1946 Martin 000-28. As those who appreciate older Martin guitars know, 1946 was the last year of the herringbone purfling (before it was re-issued on the HD-28 some 40 years later). That exquisite little piece of inlaid wood marked the end of what some consider the "Golden Age" of instrument making. (For us, it means the year before our brother Steve was born). The Spruce top has taken on that golden tone that reminds us of the golden tones found inside the guitar. The back & sides are of that precious and wonderful Brazilian Rosewood. There is plenty of verbiage available regarding the choice between, Coco-Bolo, Madagascar Rosewood, "stump wood", Jacaranda, etc. , but the stuff that keeps our halos glowing and rotating is the straight grained, orange-brown stuff of the older Martin guitars. Tonally superior to all others in our opinion. There were only 134 model 000-28 made in 1946, and who knows how many have survived (we have seen only three 1946 000-28 models since 1971). Those that already have one of these wonderful and rare treasures know what a gem they have. For the rest of us, this may be the only chance to obtain something so rare and wonderful. The guitar is in fine shape, having had some overspray approximately 15 years ago, all else appears to be original except for recent neck set and new saddle. With hard shell case. $16,000 Stock#UGB29018 photo BUY NOW
New! Martin 000-28EC: Originally the Martin 000-28EC was going to be a limited edition based on Eric Clapton's own 1939 000-28. But the popularity among players forced martin to keep making them as long as the popularity lasts. And it shows no signs of flagging. The tone is absolutely perfect for acoustic blues, fingerstyle classics and accompanying the voice. In other words, just about as perfect as a guitar can be. If you have yet to experience the thrill of playing a 000-28EC, you owe it to yourself to try it out as soon as possible. With hard case. (msrp: $4349) Stock#29943
Used Martin 000-28VS: The great "folksinger's guitar" from C.F. Martin & Co. 12 frets to the body, slotted peghead, slightly wider neck with the more traditional feel, short scale too! This beauty has received the 'clothing' of Martin's "1935 sunburst". The slightly longer than 14 fret body of Sitka Spruce and Rosewood produces an agonizingly sweet tone that will cause fair maidens to swoon and bring grown men to tears. With hard case. $2500 Stock#UGB25837*
New! Martin OM-18GE: The original Martin Orchestra Model as envisioned by Perry Bechtel approximately 80 years ago. An Adirondack Spruce top with Mahogany back & sides. A wonderful creation. Quite possibly the most perfect Martin model being built Today. With hard case (msrp:$4899) Stock#NGB26847
New! Martin OM-28GE: Years from now, when players and collectors are discussing the "Golden Age" of luthiery, they may have to refer to them as Golden Age I and Golden Age II. The early Golden Age (from approx. 1927 to 1942) was an era that saw many of the classic designs become recognized examples of high quality guitar making. From 1984 to the present, guitar makers have re-invented the art of guitar making, often referring to the original designs. The Martin OM-28GE, is just such an instrument. Taking the original early '30s 14 fret OM design characteristics and marrying it to modern techniques to bring forth an instrument that will be recognized as the epitome of the luthier's art. The use of the hallowed Adirondack Spruce top, along with the fast disappearing Brazilian Rosewood back & sides, is an excellent start. Inside the guitar of course, Martin used the original "high X" scalloped bracing. The tone is just what you'd expect from an instrument that is one of the most sought after models in the Martin line. The neck is the perfect 1 3/4" wide at the nut and is carved to the vintage V shape. Here's a chance to own a guitar which will provide several lifetimes of pure playing pleasure. With hard case. Here's your modern version of the 1930s OM-28 with its Adirondack Spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood back & sides. Yet, there is something radically different about this one...the cutaway!!! Yes, Martin has taken their legendary OM design with its scalloped bracing, select woods, the easy playing V shaped 1 3/4" wide neck, and added a cutaway for the modern player. The best of both eras! (First person who says "in one era and out the other" can go to your room). With hard case. (msrp: $14,999) Stock# NGB21379. photo

Style 45 abalone pearl is inlaid into the top border as well as the back and sides. Top, back, sides, headstock and fingerboard are bound with grained ivoroid, with the latter two also inset with mitered wood fiber inlays. Used Martin DX-1: GE used to say that their most important product was progress. (I guess light bulbs were a close second). So t is also with the venerable C.F. Martin & Co. The top of this Martin dreadnought is a very traditional solid Sitka Spruce top, but the back & sides are an environmentally friendly man made material similar to formica. (great idea, eh? If your music career doesn't work out, you can use the back & sides to re-surface your kitchen counter top.). Seriously though, the tone from this natural and man made materials combination is remarkable. To even the casual listener, the tone of a true Martin is very much in evidence. New! Martin D Mahogany 09: Perhaps the most environmentally responsible guitar on our planet. Martins alliance with the SMARTWOOD® folks to build instruments using environmentally friendly wood, has produced not only instruments with Martin's outstanding quality, but insures that the natural forests of the world are not adversely affected by harvesting trees to make guitars, furniture, etc. As the world's leading Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest management certifier, SmartWood sets the international gold standard for credibility in auditing environmentally and socially responsible forestry. In partnership with Martin Guitars, they have blazed the trail for insuring that the natural forests survive as long as possible. Now, about the guitar: at first glance one might think they were looking at the hallowed D-18GE. Then, checking out the price tag, one might think they were saving an incredible amount of money due to an error by either C.F. Martin & Co. or BuffaloBros. Neither assumption is correct. Martin has offered this model at a considerable savings over the D-18GE. You get the same scalloped, forward shifted X bracing, a master grade Spruce top, and rich sounding Mahogany back & sides. The same vintage styling is evident too. The tone is magnificent! In our hearts and minds, we have shifted allegiance from the D-18GE to the D Mahogany 09 not only for its price, and not just for its environmentally friendly approach to guitar building, although those are factors, but it has become our favorite due to, as always, the tone and playability. Don't you owe it to yourself, and the planet, to check one out? I thank you, and the world thanks you. With hard case (msrp $3499) Stock#NGB29973* PHOTO

New! Martin Ditson Dreadnought 111: Back in the early part of the 20th Century, the C.F. Martin Co. was approached by representatives of the Oliver Ditson Co. to create a new model, specifically for their stores. The guitar they had in mind was quite a bit larger than the models prevalent at the time. The Ditson folks wanted an instrument that would cover the low end of the tonal scale and be loud enough to be a commanding rhythm instrument for the very popular mandolin orchestras of the day. The Martin Co. arrived at the dimensions and appointments that you see here, and soon EVERYBODY wanted one. Over the years, the guitar took on a few more frets, the waist became pinched a little more, the neck narrowed... you get the idea. Here Martin has re-introduced the Ditson 111 in its original configuration. The guitar is big, but it has subtle overtones that make it an extremely well balanced and sweeter sounding instrument. Our pick for the best new/old guitar on the planet! With hard case. (msrp: $6499). Stock #NGB28255 PHOTO

The Martin J series is actually a 16" lower bout small jumbo with much better focus than it's larger, similarly named cousins. The Martin JC-16 also has a cutaway and built in state-of- the- art pickup system designed by Fishman, known as the Aura system. In addition to the great clarity and focus of the Martin J design, the guitars also exhibits much more in the way of tonal enjoyment due to the Sitka Spruce top and Rosewood back & sides. New! Martin HJ-38 Stefan Grossman: Is there anyone out there who is not familiar with Stefan Grossman? The author and co-author of hundreds of instructional, book, tapes, cds and DVDs. Mr. Grossman, first appeared on record with the Even Dozen Jug Band (an aggregation that also included Maria Muldaur, Zal Yanofsky, David Grisman, Joshua Rifkin, and just about every other player of note since the '60s). Mr. Grossman is known for being a perfectionist, especially when it comes to sound. The Martin folks explained that the guitar took much longer to design than usual because SG would not allow them to release any instrument that he did not deem perfect. Well, it is perfect! Robust, aggressive tonality with all the richness that can come from any Martin, new or old! This example is number 10 in the limited run. A rare opportunity to own a suberb, highly collectable Martin guitar. With hard case (msrp: $5199) Stock#NGB26644. photo
