The legacy that Leo Fender began in 1946 has continued to be the soul of G&L guitars.
We pay special attention to the "Leo era" instruments that he and his partner George Fullerton produced prior to 1991, as well as G&L Special and Limited editions.
For those who do not know, there are legions of players and collectors who firmly believe that G&L guitars are the future collectables and are currently the best value in a vintage electric guitar.
Just In! RARE 1980's G&L G-200 Rear Loader! (VG+) This is one of the very very few G-200's in existence with rear loaded controls. It comes to us on consignment from a private collector and is exceptional in many ways. First, only 209 of the G-200's exist, and of those approximately 12 are "rear loaded" versus the metal "cloud plate." We've already verified this guitar in the factory logs as one of these hard to find beasties! It appears that the 3-way switch was replaced as it is missing the unique "flat top" knob ~ not uncommon after years of use. The neck is very flamey and has the unstained natural Ebony fingerboard that G&L was wont to do. It has lot of figuring and looks just fabulous! It is also a Series I with the flatter radius fingerboard so you won't fret out when playing up higher on the neck. The mahogany body is in good shape with some handling marks with a small ding at the bottom and some slight pickwear. Anyway you slice it ~ this is a beautiful instrument. As for sound ~ what can we say? The G-200 can do everything from Les Paul to steroid driven humbuckers and all points in between! These guitars are highly sought and finding one in ANY CONDITION is a treasure in itself. It does come with a hardcase ~ however it is not a G&L case, nor the typical rectangular style used on the G-200 series. Pictures will be forth coming ~ but don't hesitate to stop by the shop and drool as you gaze lovingly at it in the fancy display case. Weighs in at a respectable 8.2 lbs. Used! G&L Trinity: (exc) We've got one! The fabulous limited edition G&L Trinity. Only 25 of these "ultra G&Ls" were ever made, and evn rarer is the #4 neck. 1987 G&L ASAT III Black: (Good+) WOW! Less than 150 of these pre-BBE ASAT III's were made and when you listen to it and see how it plays you ask yourself why didn't they make more??? Far and away one of the best sounding MFD-laden three pup ASAT's we've heard from this era. Early version with the small Leo Fender signature on the headstock, with a brass nut and replaced gears (done well) with Grovers. This hardtail is full of tone ~ from the saddle lock bridge giving it immense sustain to the bite of the three single coil MFD's ~ you will want this the moment you play it. Black body makes it look more like one of the G&L Broadcasster models ~ crinkle bridge, control plate and neck plate ~ single ply black pickguard with a slight warp (hey it's 21 years old) - and one of those cool super fast playing thin 1980's era George & Leo necks! Used G&L ASAT Signature Headstock Faded to Yellow: (Good+) Those of use who collect and play G&L's ~ we have an affection for these old Leo Era models. This is the ASAT "Signature Headstock" model with an Ash body in a yellowed slightly see through finish. Black crinkle metal pickguard, control plate and saddle lock bridge wtih black gears. We've haven't had a chance to date this by taking off the neck, however the headstock suggests 1987-1988, while the s/n suggested 1990 (G&L rarely pulled plates in "order" - thus removing the neck is the only way to date it correctly). 1983 G&L S-500 Natural: (VG-) Early S-500 with serial number on the Dual-Fulcrum bridge. Black crinkle 2-piece pickguard/control plate. Maple neck and fingerboard. This is a killer sounding S-500 and the jury is still out as to whether this is Ash, Poplar or Maple body (we need a 3-sided coin to flip and couldn't find one. hahaha!). Seriously though, this must have been someones special guitar as it also has a brass plate on the neck heel with a name and date of "March 15, 1985." (A guitar from the Ides of March!). 1985 G&L S-500 Black: (VG-) Very cool all in Black (Zorro Version?) S-500 with the black crinkle 2-piece pickguard/control plate. Dual fulcrum tremolo, three single coil MFD pickups for superb tone that only a MFD can deliver. The ebony neck has some real nice streaking as G&L was wont to use natural (unstained) ebony. New! G&L S-500 Deluxe Cherryburst With Matching Headstock: This is one of the most beautiful S-500's we have ever had in the store. The flame on the body is practically 3-Dimensional not to mention tiger striped! LOOK AT THE PHOTOS! If pictures are worth a thousand words, then you can read about a million in the pictures we took. Naturally with a body like this, you'll be thankful it's the "Deluxe" version (sans pickguard) so you can really admire the wood. (We did say look at the pictures, right???). We're nearly tempted to offer a chamois cloth with this just to keep her pretty when you wipe off the drool off that you'll no doubt expel on it. :) (Hey, if you can't enjoy a guitar, why own it, eh?). 1980 G&L F-100 Series II Tobacco Sunburst on Mahogany: (VG-) There's one thing these mahogany bodied F-100's have ~ superb tone! And this one won't disappoint you! Sure it has the handling marks of a played guitar with some belt buckle rash on the back, and nicks on the headstock from leaning against a wall ~ but all that tells us is that a PLAYED guitar is one that's loved and has to mojo vibe to kick some amplifier across the stage! From the first year of G&L's production, and their first guitar model ~ it features twin humbucker MFD's as well as a black ebony fingerboard and dual fulcrum trem. 1981 G&L F-100 Series I "HARDTAIL" Natural Ash: (VG) Hard to find "Hardtail" G&L F-100 with the Series I flatter fingerboard profile with a 12" radius. 1981 G&L SC-2 Mustang Body w/Tremolo Black! (VG-) Ok, she’s been well played and rightfully so! (I don’t know about you folks, but I don’t own a museum to hang my guitars in, I buy ‘em to play!). First this is the very rare 1st body version of the SC series commonly referred to as the “mustang” body style. Second, it has the even rarer Dual Fulcrum Tremolo. Maple body, all in black with Maple neck/fingerboard. Twin MFD Soapbars have that thick tone that made G&L MFD pickups famous. Missing trem arm. Comes with a non-original hardcase. $1,100. 1987 G&L SC-3 Cream: (VG) We've long been fans of the SC-3. Some folks mistakenly think the SC models were "student models" which couldn't be farther from the truth. Back in the 80's a lot of Asian import guitars were flooding the market making it difficult to compete. What G&L did was to design a pure performance instrument with their patented Dual Fulcrum tremolo, patented MFD pickups, patented Bi-cut neck, patented 3-bolt design all made in the good ole U.S. of A. This example has a great playing neck - thin and fast (typical of late 80's SC models) and has an ebony fingerboard. Three MFD's are seted in a black pickguard for killer sound! 1987 G&L SC-3 Black (the Zorro Version!): (Good+) Ok, it's not really the Zorro version but what else would you call this guitar all dressed in black? Black body, black neck, black headstock, black ebony fingerboard ~ Maybe Darth? :) Seriously, these non-pickguard early SC-3's are just great sounding guitars! Dual-fulcrum tremolo, all original hardware and knobs ~ has wear/dings on the back of the neck from a capo, as well as assorted nicks to the headstock and marks. 1990 G&L SC-3 Sunburst w/matching headstock! (Exc-) We rarely find SC-3's in Sunburst, let alone with a matching sunburst headstock! This is a very clean example with a white pickguard, 3 magnetic field desgin (MFD) pickups, which have simply great tone, and of course an Ebony fingerboard. 1989 G&L Skyhawk "Leo Fender Signature Model" Cream w/matching headstock: (VG) Leo Fender was wont to experiment with everything. Folks who don't follow G&L will say ~ "It's just another Strat" ~ but nothing could be farther from reality. Leo Fender would experiment constantly with pickups, pickup position, and how they interact together. They Skyhawk has a HUGE following from collectors ~ and of course, the Leo Fender signature on the body is one of the many things we love about this guitar. Outside of the cigarette headstock burn at the low E area of the headstock, this is a very fine instrument with just enough handling marks to show it has been played and loved. Ash body, and of course an ebony fingerboard as was standard for the time (as opposed to rosewood) from G&L. The body has long faded to cream with the matching headstock doing the same. New! Limited Production G&L Invader XL White: Pure RAWK! The Invader was a great 80's guitar for G&L that saw many a player grab to as their "go to" axe. G&L has brought back this modern version in solid white finish and twin "zebra" humbuckers (If it was greek, would it be Zorba Humbuckers? Just curious...hahaha!). G&L's patented saddle-lock fixed bridge really adds to the sustain to give it superb tone.
