It comes as no surprise that when he entered the electric guitar market he would only let the best of instruments bear his name. The City Limits is their single cutaway solid body offering and features a beautifully bookmatched carved flame maple top with ivoroid binding, solid mahogany back with rear contour, one-piece mahogany set neck with unbound rosewood fingerboard, pearl dot inlay, ebony peghead overlay with pearl inlaid Collings logo, Sperzel tuning machines with ivoroid buttons, Tone-Pro tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece, amber top hat knobs, a pair of custom Jason Lollar humbucking pickups with 3-way toggle selector switch, individual volume and tone controls. When they started building mandolins some years ago, they were quickly recognized as among the finest being produced. A nd so it is also with the electrics they have now been producing for almost 2 years. This single cutaway solid body not only feels right and plays right. it has features some manufacturers either overlook or leave out due to cost cutting measures. Not so with Collings, Everything is done, and done right. The beautiful Iced Tea Sunburst is perfect. Just the right blend of both dark & light shades that produces a beautiful color combination. The flame Maple top is among the finest pieces of that highly desirable wood to be found on an electric guitar.
