1968 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop: After constant hounding by guitarists around the world, Gibson finally relented and reintroduced the Les Paul model in 1968 in two forms; the Custom in black with twin humbuckers and the Goldtop with a pair of P-90 single-coil pickups. Oddly enough, during the short period of '68-69 before the dreaded changes took place in the company and production specifications, the Les Paul models were very close to the original early designs. Funny to think that they'd spend the '70s and '80s chasing the ideas that continue to make the Les Paul one of the most desired electric solidbody models of all time. This fine example features a carved maple top on solid mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard and pearl trapezoid inlay. Not surprisingly the tuners have been changed and the neck has been refretted with jumbos, but the bridge, tailpiece and most importantly the pickups are the originals.....and this baby just SCREAMS!!! The neck profile is a comfortably full and rounded "C" shape in the original '50s style, the kind of neck you just wanted latch onto and never let go. This Gibson Les Paul Goldtop is the real thing...and then some! With hard shell case. Buffalo Bros price: $12,500 Stock #UGC34719.
